The question of utility often comes up in the equestrian world and moreover when we focus on promoting miniature horses. Things are moving, our relationship with animals as well, and this allows everyone to open their eyes to the field of possibilities. Because if riding is indeed prohibited (except on a few heavier and larger models), the diversity of disciplines that are accessible to a miniature horse allows everyone to find what they like.

Miniature horses are particularly versatile horses that can practice many disciplines that allow you to forge strong bonds with your companion.

Having a miniature horse is having a horse in order to... only have a horse . And not having a horse to ride on it. This distinction changes everything about our relationship with animals and the relationship that we can build with them.

Remember that you have to know how to listen to your horse , not everyone appreciates all the disciplines, not all are physically suited for all the disciplines (a horse with upright worries or weak kidneys will potentially have difficulties or even pain, for example) : let's observe them, listen to them .

Shows

Consists of presenting his horse during the various competitions that take place in France or abroad. The horse must know how to stay still to appreciate its conformation and to have assimilated the walk in hand to present itself at a walk and trot in a relaxed manner, as close as possible to natural gaits.

Halter

Includes all the exercises that you can do with your horse on foot, from the loin to the join up, including neck bends and foot control. It is the essential basis of the work  and a fortiori a healthy relationship with your horse, one that allows you to establish your codes, mutual respect and a solid bond.

Long reins

Before setting up the team, the long reins allow your horse to learn voice codes and direction. They also give him the opportunity to gain confidence because he finds himself "alone" in front of and by extension to solidify your mutual trust.

Jumping

Consists of unrolling an jumping course in hand, the quality of the route, the approach, the jump shot,  the reception and the quality of the relationship between the horse and its handler are taken into account. The obstacle in hand also exists in the form of power for which the horse must jump the highest or the farthest. Some events also take the chronometer into account.

Agility

Varied obstacle course : slalom, river, tarpaulin, immobility, sudden noise, get into a van, take the 4 feet, make your horse back... So many small exercises that allow a horse to be well in its hooves, in confidence with its owner and who evolves on the course in a calm way.

Dressage

Rearing up, doing the leg, lying down, moving freely, so many exercises to build fun together with your horse and build a happy relationship.

Driving

If culturally we ride on it, we must know that the horse is above all made, from a morphological point of view, to drive ! A mini can pull a little more than 2 times its own weight  with an average weight ranging from 80 to 130 kg, so its pulling capacity is around 200/250 kg . This leaves you with great opportunities for a walk.

Ski & Roller Joering

If you are lucky enough to have a little snow in winter or if you are comfortable on wheels, skiing or roller joering are two very fun disciplines to share with your miniature horse.

Equitherapy

The benefits of contact with animals are no longer to be proven , their contact brings us many benefits and equitherapy is one of them. Due to their small size, miniature horses are particularly suited to this discipline. Less impressive, naturally close and curious, many practitioners in mediation, Equicoaching, Pet Therapy, make for a miniature horse race to offer sessions to a diverse audience and often softened by our ponies.

Hiking

On foot, packaged (15/20 kg maximum), do not hesitate to go hiking with your miniature horse. This will give him the opportunity to discover new horizons and to see you as a referent, a leader on whom he can lean when he is faced with new things or an environment that he does not know. Walking will also allow you to work on cardio and endurance, two essential elements for good health in the horse.
